The ways in which human beings construct and categorize their world constitute the frameworks for their observations, attitudes and actions. When arguing and making sense of the world one refers to the basic frameworks and benchmarks of one’s thinking. Through argumentation, sense making and other communicative processes we construct new knowledge(s) and perpetuate the existing one(s).
Within this research field we have studied and currently study e.g. constructions and conceptions of equality, European integration, violence, security, human rights, nationality, scientific knowledge, policies and feminism. Also technology and foods have been our topics. During the years 2003-2005 we hosted Marie Curie doctoral student scholars in a network that was coordinated from the La Sapienza University in Rome. Currently we are participating in EU’s COST 1205 action (Social psychological dynamics of historical representations in the enlarged European Union, 2012-2016).

Arkiajattelu ja argumentointi
Se miten ihminen rakentaa ja jäsentää maailmaa, luo puitteet hänen havainnoilleen, asenteilleen ja toiminnalleen. Argumentoidessa vetoamme maailmajäsennyksemme peruspuitteisiin ja kiintopisteisiin. Argumentoinnin ja muiden kommunikatiivisten prosessien kautta luomme uutta tietoa ja ylläpidämme vanhaa.
Tällä tutkimusalueella olemme tutkineet ja tutkimme käsityksiä ja niiden muodostumista esimerkiksi tasa-arvosta, Euroopan integraatiosta, väkivallasta, turvallisuudesta, ihmisoikeuksista kansallisuudesta, hallintokäytännöistä ja feminismistä. Tutkimuskohteitamme ovat olleet myös käsitykset teknologiasta ja ruuasta. Vuosina 2003-2005 emännöimme väitöskirjantekijöiden Marie Curie verkostoa, jota koordinoitiin Rooman La Sapienza yliopistosta. Tällä hetkellä olemme mukana EU:n COST 1205 hankkeessa (Social psychological dynamics of historical representations in the enlarged European Union, 2012-2016).
